Māori Immersion Kaiako

An exciting opportunity exists for a highly talented, passionate, and collaborative educator to join our supportive professional team and lead our school in Māori education. We are seeking a specialist Y7-8 teacher who understands and has a proven track record of success in developing a local curriculum through a Te Ao Māori lens. Ideally, you will be proficient in te reo Māori me ōna tikanga, have an innovative approach to progressing te reo Māori in our bilingual class, and be willing to support and enhance our schools' vision of creating a culture of innovation and curiosity in Mātauranga Māori.

If you are someone with experience in bilingual learning contexts, curriculum design, and have the passion and willingness to be part of a team that is creating cultural and educational change, then this role is ideal for you.

Our ideal applicant forms reciprocal learning-focused relationships with students and whānau, has strong empathy, a good sense of humour, high energy levels, and uses initiative to proactively manage a range of situations.

You will be an inclusive practitioner, have sound knowledge of the social, emotional, and learning needs of Y7–8 students, be culturally responsive, and have knowledge of Te Ao Māori. You will have proven experience with building positive relationships across a variety of contexts and will enjoy leading the teaching and learning in a motivated, enthusiastic and innovative team that is future-focused in designing and delivering a rich local curriculum.

Being a reflective practitioner with strong relational and educational pedagogy is a must. You will lead the teaching and learning, act as a mentor and coach to colleagues, as well as work with students, parents, whānau, boards of trustees, and the wider school community. You will help shape innovation and lead change in school, particularly change directed at raising student achievement. You will work with, and support, classroom teachers and students, providing pedagogical and pastoral leadership and fulfilling various administrative roles.

An understanding of Deep Learning, ICT, and Local Curriculum design is advantageous.
